Amnerfield Minature Railway Public Running
|
An unusual attraction situated at Amners Farm is the miniature railway, known as the Amnerfield Miniature Railway.
Discussions between David Jerome and Nigel Batts began during the summer of 1995, a route was agreed and work began on clearing the ground for the track (dual gauge 71/4 and 5 inch).
After three years of groundwork which included track building and fitting, the laying of ten sets of points, plus a steel bridge which crosses the pond, the continuous circuit measured a distance of three quarters of a mile in length.
We opened to the public in May of 1999 for our first run, which was part of a Shire Horse awareness day at Amners Farm.
Since then, the railway has had many refinements and additions, and we now have an enthusiastic group of thirteen members, who have brought with them various skill sets, which include making signals, a new carriage shed and boarding to keep the ballast in place.
Nigel Batts has since retired to New Zealand, and the farm is now managed by Chris Webber and his family, who continue to enthusiastically support the railway and are happy to be part of its ongoing development.
Open days We offer open days for other clubs to visit and run their locos. We also visit other clubs here and abroad. This year we have two open days:-
2nd and 30th June 2012
Birthday parties The railway is also available for children’s parties.
